What does a videographer do/what can a videography do for me?

The correct business answer to this is “anything you want” the truth is and what a lot of videographers probably won’t be honest about, is that surprisingly… we do videos! Not exclusively but almost always as a bare minimum, video plus the edit. Understanding what a videographer can do for you is pretty simple. If they say they can do it and you can see examples that show they can do it, then chances are, you’re going to be pretty safe with what they have on offer.


Videographers are often a one person ordeal, they shoot and edit and often are your key contact when doing business for video content. That said, like us, there is such a thing as a video marketing agency. Video agencies have more people, and therefore more they can offer; all under the umbrella of digital video agency. Things that aren’t uncommon for a videographer/agency to offer…


  • Ideas - Struggling to know what to shoot? A videography should know exactly how to help.

  • Copyrighting - Writing a script, support with writing or script editing. Usually videographers need to understand your brand, business and keywords to do this for you without a plan/bullet points you've created.

  • Editing/Computer graphics - Have an idea for some cool video graphics to be integrated into your content? Ask the question, see if the videographer can do it for you.

  • SEO - Search engine optimisation is more on the marketing side, however some creators may offer this as part of their package.

  • Post analytics - Highlight the impact the content has had on your audience and potentially showcase how it's increased your sales.

  • Social media content creation - Shortform catchy content to ride the mass wave of viewership seen by recent trends.

  • Music licencing - Have a song in mind that is a must, see if they can get it licenced for you for a good cost? (This is a challenge, I'd suggest not getting fixed on a song, music licensing is the bane of most creatives existence).


Video content should be seen as one of two things when investing. Either the content brings in more sales and you see ROI or it informs your prospects of recent developments in your business. Ideally, it does both.


Let's break down the process. We film, we edit. Done. Easy. Right? At it's simplest and probably cheapest form, yes that is right. At the other end of the spectrum we could lay it out like this... You contact us off the back of our outbound marketing strategies. We talk with you about your needs, goals and wants for the project. We create a bespoke quote. We research and purchase all the relevant and most updated equipment for your project. We organise a shoot, scripts, presenters, dates, parking, food, insurance, drone cover/liabilities/permissions, risk assessments (on the higher end a lot more paperwork is needed), data protection, copyright complications, travel, professional indemnity and any special requirements of your shoot. We shoot. We data manage. We edit. We music licence. Sometimes graphics or CGI needs integrating. We make changes on feedback. Then finally, we deliver. Now that's almost overcomplicating things. Most of that, you as a client shouldn't need to worry about. It's part of our job to make sure our job can be done legally and safely.


In summary, a videographer/agency can do a lot for your business. I'm a big believer that any business of any size, in this day and age, can benefit from video marketing. We are all different.
